Resilient Team Muirhead win Bronze at Euros
To INTU Braehead, where Team Muirhead took the Red Sky performance of the week with a resilient and inspiring Bronze medal victory at the European Curling Championships. After a flawless 9-0 start to their campaign, Eve and the girls were defeated by Russia in the semi-final.
Visibly emotional; Eve, Anna, Vicki & Lauren had a matter of hours to bounce back from their disappointment to prepare for a battle for Bronze. The team from the Czech Republic fought bravely but Team Muirhead emerged victorious.
Afterwards, Eve reflected; “We’re delighted. To come out and get a medal was our goal at the start of the week – and seven consecutive medals (at seven consecutive European Championships) is pretty special,” said Muirhead.
“It’s not the colour we wanted, but we fought hard for that bronze medal.”
This level of consistency is a mark of a world class team. This result will stand Team Muirhead in good stead on their journey to Peongchang Winter Olympic Games in 2018.
Elsewhere, Scotland closed out the Autumn Series with a dominant 43-16 victory over Georgia. Captain Greig Laidlaw led the line with Richie Gray, Jonny Gray, Mark Bennett and Zander Fagerson all in action for #teamredsky and attention now turns to the Six Nations Tournament in February.
